Neutral Evil God of Darkness & Poison
The Shadow is the Patron of Yuan-ti, God of Darkness, and Poison. He is one of the few Gods that forbids his followers from worship of any deity but himself. He does not take sacrifices in the traditional sense but wishes his faithful to actively go out and murder in his name. While the Lord of Murder does not need to be begged for his help. As he is said to take notice of anyone even thinking of killing. Those who do not worship him may find themselves receiving dreams to do violence to their enemies, only to wake up and find poisons or weapons previously not there in their possession. Maybe someone only thinking vile thoughts may have a masterful plan come to mind on how to rid themselves of a person they hate.
The Shadow is fond of snakes and they are used in his symbolism. For snakes embody the stealth of hiding in shadows, then the poised lightning fast strike to kill. He is the favored deity of the yuan-ti and patron of assassins. The Shadow rules the mountains of Tytherion, the Endless Night, while Tiamat, Queen of Chromatic Dragons, rules the caverns below. Eons ago, after realizing that she could not defeat Adiron, Tiamat decided to obtain her own realm and invaded Tytherion, hoping to unseat The Shadow. She won a partial victory, but could not defeat him entirely. The Lord of Murder and his serpentine worshippers prefer the deep caverns, so she attacked those first. The result is the strange division of Tytherion today; The Shadow and his serpents rule the mountains and fields, far above the depths they prefer to crawl in, while Tiamat and her dragons rule the underground caverns, far beneath the skies and mountains they prefer to fly through. It is possible that everybody in Tytherion would be happier with a simple trade, granting Tiamat the heights and The Shadow the depths, but neither God will admit such a desire; their pride is too great. Tiamat wants all of Tytherion, while The Shadow regards her as an interloper. One that he wishes destroyed for her impertinence. But of all the Gods, he hates Pelor most. He commands his faithful to undue The Sun God’s works wherever they can and at every opportunity. If The Shadow gets his way he will destroy Pelor and purge the world of light. No wound would heal nor sickness be cured. All would suffer an die in his name. Most view this as hatred with no power as people do not believe him powerful enough to complete such a mission. However the Gods and Pelor specifically know The Shadow is a credible threat. After all, most mortals are unaware of the many, now nameless Gods, he has personally dispatched.
